Closing the Loop on
Singapore's Waste

Leading recycling centre in Singapore for waste paper and all recyclable materials. As one of Singapore's foremost waste paper packers since 1971, Tai Hing collects and processes paper, metal, plastics, and wood — contributing to Singapore's national recycling goals.

Singapore's 2030 Recycling Target

How Far Are We From 70%?

Singapore's Zero Waste Masterplan sets a national target of 70% recycling rate by 2030. In 2024 we stand at 50% — a 20-percentage-point gap with just 6 years to go.

By Material · NEA 2024
Recycling Rates for Materials We Handle

Data sourced from the National Environment Agency (NEA) 2024 Waste Statistics. Tai Hing actively collects and recycles these key material streams.

Paper & Cardboard
1.27M tonnes generated in 2024
31%
▼ from 32% (2023)

⚠️ Recycling rate has fallen steeply from 52% in 2018. Rising e-commerce packaging, high logistics costs, and weakened commodity prices are key factors. NEA is prioritising paper recycling improvements.

Plastics
957K tonnes generated in 2024
5%
= same as 2023

🔴 Singapore's lowest recycling rate. Most plastic is incinerated. The Beverage Container Return Scheme launching April 2026 aims to boost plastic recycling rates significantly.

Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Metal

✓ consistent 99%

✅ Metal recycling in Singapore is highly efficient. Both ferrous (steel, iron) and non-ferrous (aluminium, copper) metals achieve near-complete recycling rates year on year.

Wood
447K tonnes generated in 2024
67%
▼ from 61% — wait, ▲ recovery

📉 Wood recycling dropped from 61% (2023) due to closure of one biomass plant and prolonged maintenance of another. Recovery expected as plant capacity is restored in 2025.
